The Wilma Theater announces new Managing Director For Immediate Release: August 12,
1999 Philadelphia, PA - August 12 - The Board of Directors of The Wilma Theater is delighted to announce the hiring of Naomi Grabel as Managing Director. Naomi comes to us from South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, California, where she served as Director of Marketing and Communications. In her four years there, the subscriber base increased to 18,600, and sales increased across the board in both single ticket and group sales. She created and implemented a strategic and comprehensive long-range plan for local sales and national presence. Her prior experience includes two years as Director of Communications at Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas, and one year as Associate Managing Director of Yale Repertory Theater in New Haven, Connecticut. Naomi holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theater Administration from Yale University and is a recipient of the prestigious Morris J. Kaplan Award, granted to the top graduate student in theater administration studies. Philadelphia is a return home of sorts for Naomi, who received her undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. "I couldn't be more pleased to join the leadership team at The Wilma Theater. I have the highest regard for the artistic work created by Blanka and Jiri Zizka and the very talented staff, and look forward to helping this organization grow into a larger player in the national theater community," stated Naomi. The Board of Directors Search Committee scoured the country for the right candidate for the Managing Director of the Wilma. Board President A. E. Wolf says, "Naomi has strong leadership capabilities. She impressed us with her forward thinking, her ambitions for the Wilma, and her ability to clearly and precisely communicate her ideas, not to mention her extensive theater background." Artistic Directors Blanka and Jiri Zizka are extremely pleased that Naomi has accepted the Managing Director position and look forward to leading the Wilma with her. They are truly excited about having found such a terrifically gifted and experienced partner. Together, they will be a dynamic team leading the Wilma into the next millennium. The entire Wilma staff welcomes Naomi and the new ideas and energy she'll bring to the Theater. ###
