THE INVENTION OF LOVE BOOK CLUB: WILMA TO CONDUCT WEEKLY DISCUSSONS TO SHARE UNIQUE INSIGHTS INTO TOM STOPPARD'S POWERFUL SCRIPT For Immediate Release: November 22,
1999 Philadelphia, PA - November 22 - Every Monday night at 6:30pm between February 7 and March 13 during the run of THE INVENTION OF LOVE, The Wilma Theater will host a discussion of the play. Wilma dramaturg and literary manager, Carrie Ryan, will be on hand to give interested patrons and community members unique insights into the script by Tom Stoppard. This script discussion will be free to subscribers and $5 for anyone else interested in attending. In THE INVENTION OF LOVE, Oscar-winner Tom Stoppard explores the life of classical scholar and renowned poet A.E. Housman. Near the end of his life, Housman boards a ferry across the River Styx and returns to turn-of-the-century Oxford, where he encounters his younger self and comes to terms with his life's choices. Trapped in the straitjacket of Victorian England, Housman confronts the unexpressed love that consumed him. Worlds collide when he meets Oscar Wilde, an Oxford classmate who took a road less traveled. In this complex and rewarding play, Stoppard weaves ideas, wit, and passion. Copies of the book THE INVENTION OF LOVE are available at Shop Wilma in the lobby, or at our producing partner, Borders Books & Music on Walnut Street. For more information on the play discussion and to reserve your space, contact Carrie Ryan at 215.893.9456 x112 or by email at cryan@wilmatheater.org.
