Mimi Lien has been designing sets/environments for theatre, dance, and opera since defecting from the field of architecture 12 years ago. Previous Wilma productions: Outrage, Cloud 9, A Number, The Life of Galileo, Eurydice, and Hysteria. Recent work includes: Welcome to Yuba City (Pig Iron/Live Arts), Copenhagen (Delaware Theatre Company), The Less We Talk (Hoi Polloi), You Better Sit Down: Tales from My Parents’ Divorce (The Civilians), and Communist Dracula Pageant (A.R.T.). Her work has also been presented at the Signature Theatre, Alliance Theater, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Berkshire Theater Festival, Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, Pennsylvania Ballet, The Kitchen, The Joyce Theater, and Dance Theater Workshop, among others. Her work has been recognized by a Barrymore Award, 2 Barrymore nominations, and an American Theatre Wing Hewes Design Award nomination. She was a semifinalist in the Ring Award competition for opera design in Graz, Austria and a recipient of the 2007-2009 NEA/TCG Career Development Program.
