Open Mic with Jaylene Clark Owens: Dance Nation

The Wilma Theater invites you to join HotHouse Company member, Jaylene Clark Owens, as she hosts an Open Mic based on the themes of our current show, “Dance Nation”, by Clare Barron. Each Open Mic has a featured artist and this time it's the talented Sanchel Brown!


If you’re interested in participating, we ask that you create art (poetry, music, or artwork) inspired by the show to share at the Open Mic. Participants who sign up in advance can see the show prior to the Open Mic for $10 (September 11-15, excluding Opening Night on Sept. 13) Those who cannot see the show are welcome to participate as well.

Whether you come to just listen or share,
we hope to see you there!

FEATURED ARTIST: Sanchel Brown

Sanchel Brown is a performer/choreographer/actress and founder of The Queenz Collective, originally from Baltimore, MD. Her performance highlights include World of Dance Philadelphia 2018, The Kimmel Center's 2018 Jazz residency, Let 'Im Move You: This is a Formation,Urban Bush Women (Apprentice), and Theatre Horizon's Black Nativity (Barrymore Win!).Most recently, her talent has been featured in a commercial for RUNA, an all natural energy drink as well as Davido's Coming to America Concert. Her choreography highlights include Theatre Horizon's "The Color Purple" Regional PREMIERE (Barrymore Nominated for Oustanding Choreography/Movement) , Yale Dramat's "Dreamgirls", and her self -produced shows "Ode to Black Wombman" and "Home to Homeland". Sanchel currently teaches her original "Afro-Club" dance class weekly in NYC and at Urban Movement Arts in Philadelphia.
